BAN HEETS?

No flavoured heated tobacco products can be marketed in the European Union from 23 October next year, says European Commission regulation

The European Commission has decided that from 23 October 2023, the marketing of flavoured tobacco products will be banned, including heated tobacco products, and all solutions that include flavourings in tobacco product components such as filters, paper, packaging, capsules, etc. For traditional cigarettes, the marketing of menthol or other flavoured cigarettes in tobacco shops will be banned from 20 May 2020.

BUT WHAT IS IQOS/HEETS?

Iqos is an electron kiosk device that heats the tobacco rather than burning it. A convenient and easier solution for those who don't want to quit smoking. Because it heats the tobacco rather than burning it, it does not produce fire, ash or smoke. Iqos is also beneficial because research shows that heating tobacco emits far fewer harmful substances than burning it. Iqos electronic devices work with tobacco cartridges that contain real tobacco, so they provide the same tobacco taste as traditional cigarettes.

It is important to know that it does not help you quit. If you want to avoid the harms associated with smoking, the most effective way to do this is to stop using tobacco and nicotine-containing products altogether.

Iqos is not an E-cigarette

Of course, both are electronic devices, but there is a very significant difference between them, as the Iqos heats real tobacco and produces tobacco vapour when it is heated. An e-cigarette has a filling liquid, called e-liquid. Both are significantly better choices, but electronic cigarettes are less harmful to your health (e.g. Elf Bar)

The difference between Iqos and traditional cigarettes

Iqos is the second lowest emitter after electronic cigarettes, releasing fewer harmful substances than traditional cigarettes. If you switch to using it completely, you will have much less health risk than if you continue to smoke cigarettes.  

The difference between stove firing and incineration

The difference between heating and burning is significant, as traditional cigarettes burn tobacco at high temperatures, producing smoke and ash. Iqos heats the tobacco to an optimum temperature, releasing the real tobacco flavour and nicotine without burning the tobacco. Using Iqos produces tobacco vapour which quickly dissipates.

WHAT CAN BE EXPECTED FROM OCTOBER 2023?
